Eternal Happiness

God has placed in the heart of man the desire to find happiness. Daily we look for our happiness through people, possessions and circumstances, hoping we will find it in them. We believe if we could just find that one perfect person, perfect job, perfect church or car or home or whatever we think is the reason for our unhappiness, THEN we would truly be happy and content. In our quest for fulfillment we are often disappointed when the object of our search doesn't quite measure up to our expectations. The blissful happiness we so long to possess is only short lived and without fail the desire to find true happiness once again awakens and we are back out there searching for the next thing on our list.

So why did God place a desire in our hearts that seems to be so unobtainable? Before we can know the answer, we first need to understand what we are truly searching for. What is the definition of happiness and why can't we seem to find it or keep it for very long? Happiness is the absence of physical pain, suffering, death, disappointment, sorrow, sadness and sickness. It's the emotional state of bliss, peace, joy, love and contentment that occurs when everything we define in our circle of influence is perfectly in line with our expectations. True eternal happiness is above all spiritual and can only be obtained when we leave this world and are in the presence of God Almighty our creator. In order to have a continual state of happiness we must know God personally and understand that what he has placed in our hearts, what we are desperately seeking is Him. We can find Him here on earth and we can expect to be with Him eternally in heaven. If you understand this you know that true happiness is obtainable only when you recognize what you're looking for.

Look at it this way…this desire God has placed in our hearts is our internal GPS system guiding us to search for Him. It directs our paths along the highway of life, every twist and turn and even a few detours until we find ourselves on the right road to discovering God. Most of us take a lifetime to fully discover that happiness on earth is fleeting and true happiness is eternal not internal. It is not something you find inside yourself, by yourself or as a result of anything you own. It's eternal, not of this world and it can never be completely fulfilled until us or this world passes away and we are eternally in Heaven. No matter what your belief or situation in life know that our hearts, minds and souls will not stop searching until we are with God in heaven, the place where there is no sin, no death, no pain, no suffering, no sickness and no sorrow. We are spiritually created in Gods image and each of us has a desire to be with our creator. When we join Him in the place he has prepared for us after this life we will truly be "Eternally Happy" and we will have reached our hearts destination.

My hope and prayer today is that you may avoid some of the wild goose chases that occur when you don't know what you're searching for and by reading this you will have gained the knowledge that will lead you to finding true happiness (God) sooner rather than later. May you cherish the happy moments here on earth and receive them as the gifts they are. Thank God often for your many blessings and the next time you feel the urge to put all your focus on the next thing remember what your heart is truly searching for. Enjoy what you have here and now and put your hope in God and the day that you will be eternally happy with Him.
